I was born and raised in Southern Arizona where I found the passion for the outdoors exploring the deserts, canyons, and Sky Island environments of the American Southwest.
In 1996, I moved to Ogden, Utah in his 1976 Toyota Chinook mini camper to attend Weber State University to play soccer, work for the outdoor program guiding folks in the amazing landscapes of Southern Utah and Northern Arizona all the while living in my 1976 Toyota Chinook to save a dime or two. In 1999 I received my degree in Elementary Education. I was voted by my peers and instructors as the Outstanding Student for the Weber State University Education Program.
Before coming to Utah, I attended Yavapai Community College and Northern Arizona University, both located in Arizona, where I played soccer, received my degrees in General Studies (1991) and Geography (1995), and guided trips for Northern Arizona University Outdoor Program. I led numerous trips in the Grand Canyon and a place that I have continued to play annually since 1989. My happy place!
After graduating from Weber State University, I tried to do the normal by living the domesticated life but eventually realized paying utility bills and looking out the window at the same view was not for me. So as a result, I got rid of all his household comforts and moved into a Toyota Prius full time. This made complete sense while I was gone during the summer months fighting wildfires throughout the Western United States being a member of the Bonneville Hotshots and Salt Lake Helitack located out of Salt Lake Bureau of Land Management Field Office in West Valley, Utah for 13 seasons. I did this while being an Elementary School Teacher and living in my vehicle lurking, creeping, and wandering through different parking lots and public lands looking for a place to sleep in Northern Utah which I continue to do since 2007 in my updated home on wheels, a 2025 Subaru Outback Wilderness.

I was a 3rd Grade Teacher for 21 years and 2020-2021 was my first year of 5th grade and I am still loving it.
In the summer of 2012, I decided to take a season off from firefighting and go walk the 500-mile Colorado Trail, where I became addicted to long distance backpacking in the wide open rural scenic lands of North America , continue to do, never went back to firefighting, and I am grateful that Peak Refuel Freeze dried meals have fueled these adventures since 2018. Thanks, Peak Refuel.
